Settings

Open Settings with the gear at the top right or Ctrl ,. Every change applies at once and is saved to settings.toml; Reset values restores the defaults.

Appearance

Setting	Default	What it does
Interface language	Automatic	English or Spanish. Automatic follows your system, English when it is neither.
Theme	System	Light, Dark, or System, which follows the light or dark mode of your desktop.
Font size (Interface)	13 px	The size of the interface text, 11 to 16.

Editor

Setting	Default	What it does
Font size (Text)	12.5 px	The size of the editor text, 10 to 18 in half steps.
Line numbers	On	Shows the line numbers at the left of the text.
Highlight current line	On	Tints the line of the cursor.
Minimap	On	Shows the minimap at the right of the text.
Tab size	4	The columns a tab takes, 2, 4 or 8, and the width of an indentation level in spaces.
Insert spaces	On	Whether `Tab` inserts spaces in a new or flat file. A file indented with tabs or spaces keeps its own style.

Files

Setting	Default	What it does
Trim trailing whitespace	On	Saving removes the spaces and tabs at the end of every line.
Insert final newline	On	Saving ends the file with a line break.
Exclude	`.git, target, node_modules`	What the explorer hides, comma separated, in the `.gitignore` syntax (`*.log`, `/build`). Applied when you press `Enter` or leave the field. `.gitignore` files are honored too.

settings.toml

The settings live in a plain text file: ~/.config/ted/settings.toml on Linux, ~/Library/Application Support/ted/settings.toml on macOS and %APPDATA%\ted\settings.toml on Windows. You can edit it by hand while ted is closed; a value ted does not understand falls back to its default, and the rest of the file still applies. Two keys exist only in the file:

ui_font and mono_font, the font families, Geist and Geist Mono by default.
highlight_max_size_mb, 4 by default: files bigger than this many megabytes are not parsed for highlighting.
log_level, info by default: how much ted writes to its log file.
